How to design a genuinely accessible in-room TV that complies with European regulations.

What changes with the European Accessibility Act

The EAA (EU Directive 2019/882, in force since 28 June 2025) extends accessibility requirements to digital services for the public, including information and entertainment systems used by guests at accommodation facilities. Guest TV interfaces fall within its scope.

WCAG 2.2 AA as a concrete benchmark

The WCAG 2.2 level AA criteria are the de facto technical standard: minimum contrast of 4.5:1, touch targets ≥24 px, visible focus, text alternatives for images, and full navigation via remote control without a pointer. Quadro Entertainment is designed to these criteria.

Inclusive in-room features

Subtitles for deaf and hard-of-hearing guests on live and VOD content, audio description for blind and partially sighted guests, high-contrast mode, adjustable text size, integrated screen reader in the guest's language, and a simplified 'easy mode' navigation for senior guests. All can be activated from the home screen without hidden menus.

Remote control and physical interaction

Large keys with tactile markers on the 5 key and the power button, adjustable backlighting, and dedicated shortcuts for audio description and subtitles. Compatibility with assistive remote controls via Bluetooth for guests with motor disabilities.

How to measure compliance

Quadro provides a WCAG 2.2 compliance report for every release and an audit toolkit for the property. The report is useful during tenders with corporate clients and to demonstrate EAA compliance in the event of complaints or inspections.

Frequently asked questions

Does the EAA really apply to in-room TV?+

Is Quadro Entertainment WCAG compliant?+

Yes, Quadro 2026 is designed to comply with WCAG 2.2 level AA, with a compliance report issued for every major release.

Can I turn on subtitles and audio description from the remote?+

Yes. Quadro exposes dedicated shortcuts for subtitles (SUB) and audio description (AD), accessible from any screen. Preferences persist for the length of the stay.
